Community vote: Disabling article comments

<p>Hello everyone. You might have seen and participated in a successful vote similar to this on Deltarune Wiki recently and, if so, you know what this is about. In case you have not, it might be worth giving that voting thread a read, but I'll explain the intention of this vote below either way. </p><p>This community vote is about disabling article comments on Undertale Wiki. </p> <h2><span class="mw-headline" id="Why.3F"> Why? </span></h2>

Comments are hard to moderate. This was true on Deltarune Wiki, and is even more true here. The amount of administrator and moderator time that spent on cleaning up article comments is already <i>way</i> bigger than it should be, and getting them all in order now is a lost cause.
There are better alternatives. If you wish to discuss the article's content, you can use the talk page of that article or the wiki's Discord server. If you wish to start a discussion about the article's topic, you can use this forum. Related Forum threads already appear at the bottom of wiki articles, so users can also join existing discussions easily from there. The vast majority of meaningful discussions currently happen on the Forum.
Comments are switching to Discussions, as well as the Forum. That means comments on the UCP are currently working pretty much the same as Discussions posts, but appearing under articles. Moving important discussions to one place now would save us the trouble of having to moderate two places later.

<p>The aftermath of disabling comments on Deltarune Wiki was overall positive. There were little to no complaints about it, neither in the community vote nor after it passed, and the wiki's recent changes became much more readable. </p> <h2><span class="mw-headline" id="Why_not.3F"> Why not? </span></h2> <p>Contents of article comments will not be preserved as on-wiki pages. However, as we've done on the Deltarune Wiki, in case the vote passes I will provide a MediaWiki page dump of the Talk namespace in XML and JSON formats from before they are all deleted. I will also be working on a comment dump reader to make them more easily readable. </p> <h2><span class="mw-headline" id="Voting_guide"> Voting guide </span></h2>

You must provide a valid reason for your support or opposition of the idea, otherwise your vote won't count as valid.
Replies that do not add anything valuable to the discussion will be deleted.
