Alphys (/ˈælfiːz/ AL-feez)[3] é um monstro reptiliano fêmea que vive no laboratório no oeste de Teraquente. Ela é uma personagem principal em Undertale e a única deste tipo a não lutar com o protagonista.

Alphys é um monstro amarelo reptiliano semelhante a um lagarto ou dinossauro de altura semelhante a do protagonista. Sua postura é encurvada, provavelmente por ficar debruçada no computador e em seus experimentos. História

Quando o protagonista retorna para o Laboratório, um bilhete de Alphys é encontrado no chão em frente ao "banheiro". A nota indica a direção do Verdadeiro Laboratório para o protagonista descobrir a verdade, no caso de ninguém nunca mais ouvir falar dela.[56]
O protagonista descobre sobre os experimentos de Alphys com Determinação pelos consoles nas paredes, que tem os registros do diário científico dela. Ela isolou a determinação das seis ALMAS humanas e injetou em monstros que tinham "caído", numa tentativa de aumentar a longevidade de suas ALMAS depois da morte. Nenhum dos monstros morreu, e um tempo depois eles derreteram e se juntaram em um monstro só.

Assim que o protagonista se aproxima do gerador de energia, Amálgamos o(a) emboscam. Alphys os para e explica que eles estavam "irreverentes" porque estavam com fome.[58] Alphys então diz ao protagonista que vai mudar de posição e contar a todos sobre seus experimentos falhos.[59]
Ela sai e diz que vai devolver os Amálgamos de volta para suas famílias.
Alphys também se junta a Undyne para parar a luta entre Asgore e o protagonista. Alphys está surpresa por ver dois Monstros Chefe,[60] e conforta Asgore após Toriel recusar sua oferta de amizade.[61] Mettaton encoraja ela e Undyne a se beijarem,[62] mas Toriel pede para que elas não o fazerem na frente do humano.

Depois de Undyne ligar para ela, Alphys evacua os monstros de Teraquente para o Verdadeiro Laboratório.[68] Mesmo assim, alguns monstros sobraram, como Muffet e Burgerpants. Ela não confronta o jogador diretamente.[69]
Relacionamentos
Mettaton
Antes dos eventos de Undertale, Mettaton (como um fantasma) começou um Fã-Clube Humano. A única pessoa que entrou foi Alphys,[25] que mostrou designs de um robô que ela queria construir para ele.
Alphys se preocupa se Mettaton a deixaria para trás depois que ela terminasse seu corpo.[70] Ela se preocupava muito com Mettaton, e não sabia o que faria sem ele.[49]
Alphys desaparece nos finais da Rota Neutra se Mettaton ou Undyne são mortos;[71][72] é indicado que ela possa ter cometido suicídio.
Undyne
Alphys and Undyne are in love with each other. When Undyne asked Alphys on what was in the Garbage Dump's abyss, she explained her theories.[8] They become friends after a few Garbage Dump meetings, and Alphys began having a crush on Undyne. Alphys finds Undyne's personality and strength appealing, and considers her "unbeatable" in a battle.[37][73] She appreciates that Undyne listens to her and would protect her if necessary.[74] She tries to impress Undyne by using her scientist title, as she does not want Undyne to see her as a "nerdy loser."[75] However, Alphys becomes ashamed of her lies, and fears Undyne's reaction if she confesses the truth and her feelings.
Before the protagonist's descent, Alphys helps Undyne with her skills. This includes preparing Waterfall's Bridge Seed puzzles[76] and Snowdin Forest's Multicolor Tile Puzzle.[77] Outside of puzzles, Alphys also modifies Undyne's refrigerator to heat up food,[78] and builds a giant sword with her.[79]
When they are off-duty, Undyne occasionally visits Alphys.[80] Alphys shares her love of human anime and manga with Undyne, though she convinces Undyne that it is human history.[81] Alphys also shares "chilly pink stuff" with Undyne.[82]
Though Alphys assumes that Undyne only likes her as a friend, she remains wistful. Alphys names variables after Undyne, writes her name in the margins of her notes, and writes fictions about them sharing a domestic life.[83] Alphys has also prepared gifts meant for Undyne if a potential date were to occur.[9] However, due to her low self-esteem, she is oblivious to Undyne's interest in her.[22][84]

Although Alphys was originally going to stop the protagonist, she became fond of them.[32] While watching, she often reacts positively when they succeed, and tries to guide them.[85] Eventually, Alphys prepares a plan to insert herself in their adventure. She does so by enlisting Mettaton's aid and creating obstacles in Hotland. Alphys intends to be a "heroine" to the protagonist, and to convince them to not leave the Underground.[47]
When Alphys finally meets the protagonist, she fusses over her appearance and the Lab's condition.[86] Alphys offers her phone number so they can call her for help, and instead upgrades their phone. She explains some functions and is excited to be friends with them.[36] However, she immediately hides in the "bathroom," as she knows the protagonist's tendency to explore.
Due to Alphys's anxiety and the protagonist not calling, she forgets that they can read her updates. Alphys initially struggles to call them,[22] yet continues to guide them. During puzzles, Alphys hesitates to aid in the Reactivated Door Puzzle, as she assumes it may be "unfun" if she did.[87] In her eagerness, Alphys decides to explain it,[88] though the protagonist already solved it. Alphys deactivates a conveyor belt's force field when she accidentally intervenes.[89] If something goes awry or the protagonist gets injured, Alphys apologizes and berates herself.[42]
Despite this, Alphys becomes less anxious and more confident in herself. She also tries to converse with the protagonist outside of puzzles. This includes lying to comfort them on bypassing the barrier,[90] and asking if they would watch a TV show with her later.[91][92] If the protagonist has killed Mettaton, Alphys reassures them with a lie.[50] While following the protagonist to New Home's elevator, however, Alphys chooses to tell the truth about the barrier out of guilt.[51] She apologizes before leaving.
In the True Pacifist Route, Alphys dates the protagonist, as she believes that they wrote Undyne's love letter. Alphys later admits that she has no interest in actually dating the protagonist and was only pretending to go on a date to be nice.[93] Afterwards, Alphys is comfortable enough with the protagonist to be more honest. When Alphys is later rescued from becoming a Lost Soul, she says that she cares about the protagonist and their friends as much as they care about her.[94]
If the protagonist aborts the Genocide Route in Hotland, however, Alphys holds no positive feelings for the protagonist and says that she should have killed them when she had the chance.[95]
Asgore

If the protagonist calls Papyrus just before entering the Lab in the Neutral Route, Sans appears in the call and jokes that there may be dogs inside the lab.[99] This implies that Alphys trusts Sans and may have informed him of the True Lab since Endogeny, an Amalgamate composed of several dogs, can be found there. In the Alphys Ending, Sans gives Alphys company and support when the survivors declare her the new queen, and she calls Sans "a good guy".[100]
Toriel
