I mean, he's just one of the main characters. Nothing really special about him. I mean, he has a moderately difficult boss fight, but Undyne the Undying's pretty difficult, too, and she's not as popular as Sans. Someone answer my question please, I'm kinda confused.

As I mentioned in the other thread (which now closed due to derailing despite me trying to bringing it back on track) I think it's also because of the mystery behind the character and a possible ties with the former Royal Scientist (seeing that he knows so much about quantum physic).

LITERALLY EVERY CHARACTER EMBODY THE GAME TONE. And how is he so present in the game? Aside the instances where he's present with other characters, he's present in waterfalls (a single instance) and hotland (a single instance), Core restaurant (and all if you spared Papyrus) and in the judgement hall . Compare him to Paps or undyne who can always talk to you through the phone,
Dude, I wasn't tryting to put down the other characters. Ilove them all. (Well, most of them.) Sans was just the one that appealed to me the most.
